Summer Link: A College Readiness Program
Summer Link: A College Readiness Program
Many students come to college in the fall and find out they aren't quite ready for college-level courses. There is nothing wrong with this....but wouldn't it be GREAT to get many or all of these courses completed before the fall semester starts on September 4th? And, wouldn't it be GREAT to start making connections with fellow students as well as become familiar with the college campus?
This summer, Great Bay Community College (GBCC) is offering many opportunities to help students increase their skills in math, biology, chemistry, reading, writing, and computers. See chart below. How do you decide which cours(es) to take?
- Make an appointment to take your placement test in CAPS (Center for Academic Planning & Support).
- Talk to an advisor in the Advising Center about which cours(es) you should take based on testing and intended major.
- Work with your advisor to "link" 2 or more courses together to create a summer schedule.
In addition you should also consider taking an FYE course. FYE 101 and 103 will introduce students to college life and college expectations as well as engage students in the activities and exercises that support college success. FYE 101: First Year Seminar (1 credit) and FYE 103: Essential Skills for College Success (3 credits). These courses are required of most programs at GBCC.
