How do I...
Find books and other materials in the Library?
Find an article using the databases?
Journal, magazine and newspaper articles are available through our databases . Most often, you will be searching for journal articles.
Scholarly or peer-reviewed articles are from journals written by or for professionals, experts, and researchers in the field. They will usually contain specific vocabulary and data or research. You may limit your search only to scholarly/peer-reviewed articles through some of our databases.
Full-text articles are often available, though sometimes you will find only an abstract, or summary, of the article. You may not use an abstract for research. Occasionally, this is because a journal or publication has put an embargo on their content - meaning information is unavailable for the past year, or 6 months. After enough time has passed, the article will become available in full-text. You may select only full-text articles in our databases, but be careful - this can weed out more recent results.
Keep in mind: if an article is only available as an abstract, it is often accessible through a different Library database, or even through InterLibrary Loan - simply request the article and we will email it to you in PDF format within two weeks!
See our guides on each of the databases:
Use e-books?
An e-book is a book in electronic format. Using our e-books greatly expands the amount of resources available to you. They are accessible from home, and allow you to easily copy and paste quotes, cite the source, and search through the text for keywords. Ebrary also allows you to download e-books to your eReader or smartphone.
See our guides on each of the e-book collections:
Use the other electronic resources?
The Library offers other electronic resources for a variety of needs. See our guides to each of these:
Embed links to resources in Blackboard?
Access links from off campus?

Use The Library at UNH?
The Dimond Library at UNH hosts a large collection of books and other materials. You must bring your GBCC student ID to sign up for a Library account.
Because parking at UNH can be difficult, we allow students to return their UNH books directly to the Great Bay Community College Library. Simply notify us and we will return the books and take note of the date, so you do not incur a late fee.
When you create an account, a Dimond Library staff member will ask you to enter a password. You can use this to renew your materials online at library.unh.edu/patroninfo. When asked for a Patron ID, enter your password. If you have forgotten it, call the Dimond Library at (603) 862-1535.
Your UNH Library account expires at the end of each semester - to reactivate it, simply visit the Dimond Library.
REQUEST AN INTER LIBRARY LOAN?
If you are unable to obtain a certain book or article through our Library, it may be possible to obtain it for you from another library. These requests can take up to two weeks to fulfill.
When you request materials, you will need to fill out an Inter Library loan request form (see below) Please print and complete this form. Each piece of information requested on the form is important and will ensure that you get the materials that you need.
If you locate an article in EBSCO or Proquest that is not available in full text, you may request it directly through the database. EBSCO provides an option to "Request an Inter Library Loan," while Proquest offers to "Find a copy." Click this link and fill out the electronic form to request the article. It may still take up to two weeks to receive the article.
Remember, Inter Library loan requests can take two (2) weeks to fill. Please plan accordingly. Ask a Library staff member if you have any questions.
